Artist Statement I Awards / Honors I Illustration
• Over the years I've received numerous Addy and Art Director awards. A fine art poster,
Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the LaGrand Prix, for the Des Moines Grand Prix, received an Addy award. The next year a new poster proposed.
• In 1999, the painting, Oakland Mills, won 3rd place at the Iowa State Fair, Fine Arts Competition. This winning painting was displayed at Terrace Hill mansion – governors residence by the request of the Governor and First Lady of Iowa, Tom and Kristi Vilsack.
• In 2000, The Oakland Mills, Billy Ostemeyer's Farm and Folks Backyard paintings have been displayed at the Polk County Heritage Gallery, for an exhibition titled, "State Fair Award Winners".
• In 2003, The Orchard Stand-Off, won an honorable mention at the Iowa State Fair,
Fine Arts Competition.
• In 2004, The Des Moines River at Eldon, won 3rd place in its category and a Merit overall at the Iowa State Fair, Fine Arts Competition.
• In 2005, Rolling Hills, was voted most popular painting and received the People's Choice Award
at the Iowa State Fair, Fine Arts Competition.
• In 2006, Otley, won Best Of Show award at the Iowa State Fair, Fine Arts Competition.
• In 2006, Metro Arts Alliance, in partnership with The City of Des Moines and the Greater
Des Moines Public Art Foundation, invited visual artists who had past or current ties to the community to submit original art to be published in the City of Des Moines' 2005 Performance Report: The Art of Community. Nine pieces were selected for the report based upon their quality and thematic representation of the report's content. Of the final nine entries, my illustration:
Des Moines Skyline, was selected for the cover of this report.
• In 2009, the image Evening Lights, was selected to be part of the City of Des Moines'
2008 Performance Report.
• In 2012, the image Red Tressel Bridge, was selected to be part of the City of Des Moines'
2012 Performance Report – Where We Live.
